I originally intended this song to be the final track on the CD "Dandelion" right after "Cricket, Little Cricket" which ends with crickets chirping at night. "A Little Sunshine" is supposed to sound like the sunrise, and the birds at the end are the same ones you hear in the CD intro, making it a bookend to the album. I ended up pulling both songs from "Dandelion" as I had too much music on that CD already.
